Earthworm Foundation welcomes Honest Foods S.A.C, a Peruvian-based frozen avocado and guacamole processor, as a new member.
Honest Foods S.A.C. is a frozen avocado and guacamole processor based in Peru that aims to supply healthy and sustainable foods globally. In 2022, Honest Foods S.A.C. initiated their responsible sourcing journey with Earthworm Foundation to explore joint efforts to achieve a responsible avocado supply chain.
Together, Earthworm Foundation and Honest Foods S.A.C. are carrying out a one-year pilot phase responsible sourcing program with avocado smallholders from the Moro district, Santa province, in the Ancash region of Northern Peru. Peru is the world's second-largest exporter of fresh avocados. In 2021, the Ancash region was the national fifth-largest producer of Hass avocados.
The key impacts achieved with Honest Foods S.A.C. are that 30 smallholder farmers have improved their resilience, 60 agricultural workers have improved their labour conditions, and over 60 hectares of land are undergoing regenerative farming practices.
