Project now able to continue its journey independently

As of January 2019, The Forest Trust has become Earthworm Foundation.

TFT’s partnership with Dipantara, a local timber enterprise sourcing wood from community forests in the Gunung Kidul district of Central Java, Jogjakarta, Indonesia, has come to a close. TFT has supported Dipantara to improve community forest management practices in Central Jogjakarta since 2007.

The partnership has worked towards building a strong institution, supplying social and environmentally responsible wood produced by smallholder farmers to international markets. In 2012 the project became FSC Certified, then in 2014 a second milestone was achieved when Dipantara became SVLK Certified (Indonesia’s Legality Assurance Scheme). Dipantara has established itself as a confident and independent organisation, able to maintain the high standards required for socially and environmentally responsible wood production. As well as developing strong market links and successfully maintaining FSC certification for nearly four consecutive years, Dipantara are now able to finance certification costs without TFT’s support, a major milestone for small, community forest enterprises wanting to achieve forest certification.
