Earthworm Foundation is an international non-profit organization which helps companies transform their supply chains across the world for the benefit of people and nature.

Earthworm Foundation is now seeking a motivated Sustainable Commodity & Engagement Lead, based in Indonesia or Malaysia, with good understanding of environmental and social issues related to the agricultural and forestry industry. This candidate should possess excellent leadership capability, public speaking, organisational skills, critical thinking, and analytical skills. They should have a relevant consulting or industry experience in commodity supply chains (in particular Palm Oil), corporate sustainability, and supplier engagement. The ideal candidate is deeply passionate about leveraging agricultural supply chains to improve environmental and social outcomes, and interested in a career with a dynamic non-profit that builds relationships with companies, governments and civil society organizations to bring responsible products to market.

The candidate will lead a dynamic team at Earthworm Foundation Malaysia, and play a critical bridging function regarding the exchange of information and data between Global team and local Malaysia teams to ensure alignment and continuity. To be effective in these capacities, this role will require advanced agility in adapting to work/organizational dynamics, with strong and effective interdepartmental collaboration skills.

  • Leading on the engagement of palm oil suppliers within EF member supply chains;
  • Leading and managing the Supply Chain Analysis team in Malaysia to ensure that deliverables and tasks are being completed in a timely manner;
  • Leading internal and external discussions and propose technical solutions to help strengthen and improve deliverables and services;
  • Liaising between the Malaysia Teams and Global Teams to manage and make important resourcing decisions;
  • Ensuring team members follow global data management policies and procedures
  • Coordinating and preparing for meetings and activities with EF supply chain partners, such as quarterly/bi-annual meetings and project site visits whenever required (subject to standard safety pre-requisites);
  • Represent Earthworm Foundation and participate in working groups and/or forums related to topics such as land use planning & verification, HCV/HCS, recovery plans etc;

Requirements – Candidate Profile Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of 8 - 10 years’ relevant consulting or industry experience in palm oil, corporate sustainability, agriculture, supplier engagement;
  • Master’s degree preferred for candidates with fewer years’ experience;
  • Experience in project management and client relationship management. Previous experience in engaging with commodities’ downstream companies and upstream suppliers will be an advantage;
  • Good understanding of environmental and social issues related to the agricultural and forestry industry, in particular palm oil commodity in Indonesia;
  • Good understanding of No Deforestation, Peat and Exploitation (NDPE) concept and implementation, especially for palm oil supply chain;
  • Advanced agility in adapting to work/organizational dynamics, strong and effective interdepartmental collaboration skills;
  • Public speaking, organisational skills, critical thinking, and analytical skills;
  • Leadership capability;

  • Good computer skills in Microsoft Office Program suite etc;
  • Data management expertise will be an advantage.

Language skills

  • Proficiency in English (written & spoken).

Working conditions / Physical effort

  • Based in Jakarta, Indonesia, or Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia;
  • Office-based position (must be able to do remote work/work from home when required);
  • Some local travel to company offices;

Other information

  • 12-months contract;
  • Full-time position;
  • Legal authorisation to work in Indonesia or Malaysia required.
