Senior Manager of Business Engagement Team - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Earthworm Foundation (EF) is an international dynamic non-profit organization, which helps companies, transform their supply chains across the world for the benefit of people and nature.

EF is seeking a Senior Manager of Business Engagement Team, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with working experience in the sector of oil palm plantations/mills/refineries and knowledge of environmental and social sustainability. The candidate should possess a strong passion for working together with stakeholders in the private sector to drive positive transformation in the palm oil supply chain, excellent communication and writing skills and interested in a career with a dynamic non-profit that builds relationships with companies, governments and civil society organizations.
The selected candidate will lead the Business Engagement Team, which focuses on engagement activities like field/remote assessments, trainings, workshops, client management and building transformative approaches for companies in the palm oil sector. He/she will also lead business development strategy and activities not limited to the palm oil supply chain.

Responsibilities

Operational management

  • Be responsible and accountable for the development and execution of EF Malaysia annual engagement work plan, which currently emphasizes social performance of companies;
  • Project Management –including:
    • Progress and financial reporting;
    • Review and analysis of project operational performance.
  • Supervising service development activities:
    • Development of new engagement framework;
    • Innovation programs and carbon strategy;
    • Definition and recording of progress and impact indicators.
  • Writing reports based on field work, data analysis and desk based research.

Business development & account management

  • Coordination of client and member relationships of the Malaysian office;
  • Proposal writing and business development;
  • Leading meetings, making presentations and providing project updates to stakeholders.

Team management & HR support

  • Supporting & coaching team members responsible for:
    • Conducting sustainability related assessments of company sites, including conducting worker and employer interviews;
    • Resource and training module development and deployment;
    • Coaching and support to companies on transformative activities.
  • Proactive participation to recruitment, training and promotion strategy.

Financial management & Admin support

  • Support intra-group financial reporting and oversight of the Malaysian office;
  • Develop and update annual budget and financial dashboard (management accounts);
  • Support intra-group financial reporting.

Requirements – Candidate Profile Minimum Qualifications

  • Postgraduate/ Bachelor degree holder or other equivalent higher-level training in social sciences, business, sustainability, international development or any other related field;
  • Proven at least eight (8) years of work experience in project management, business and/or product development, strategic engagement, sustainability compliance or any other related field;
  • Experience in project management; social/environmental/certification audits, change management and mentoring;
  • Business sense and financial acumen;
  • Knowledge and experience working in the palm oil industry;
  • Good understanding of environmental and social issues related to the palm oil industry;
  • Public speaking, organisational skills, critical thinking, analytical skills, data analysis;
  • Leadership capability;
  • Good computer skills in Microsoft Office Programme suite etc.

Language skills:

  • Proficiency in English;
  • Proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia;
  • Other languages (Hindi, Tamil, Burmese, Mandarin, Urdu, Nepali) are an advantage.

  • Some trips around Malaysia;
  • Must be able to do remote work/work from home when required.

Other information:

  • 5-year contract (renewable);
  • Full-time position;
  • Malaysian citizenship or valid work authorization required.
