Earthworm Foundation (EF) is an international fast growing and dynamic non-profit organization which helps companies transform their supply chains across the world for the benefit of people and nature.

Earthworm Foundation is seeking a motivated Project Leader, Forest & Environment Programme, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to lead and scale up our work to implement our members’ responsibly sourcing policies by tackling issues on the ground and scaling up transformation across connected palm oil supply chains, from businesses to smallholder farmers.

Responsibilities

Environmental issues linked to palm oil supply chain

  • Support the development and implementation of strategies to manage deforestation and environmental issues in Malaysia.
  • Lead desktop/ field research and engagement with internal and external stakeholders to proactively manage and follow up on grievance cases related to deforestation and environment issues in Malaysia.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of intervention activities to stop deforestation and pursue remedial actions.

Multi-stakeholder programme in the landscape

  • Lead the development, planning and execution of EF’s supply chain and landscape programme (i.e. Traceability Programme, Mill Engagement Plan).
  • Lead the planning and execution of field engagement activities for the programme.
  • Produce reports (for internal and external audiences) to communicate activities and report progress.
  • Build and manage relationships with a network of supply chain actors (refineries, mills, FFB dealers), NGOs, government agencies (MPOB, MPOCC etc).

Forest positive strategies

  • Contribute to new innovations and ideas, and support the development of short and long term strategies to protect/ restore forest area.
  • Explore feasibility of agroforestry model within oil palm concessions.

Requirements – Candidate Profile Minimum Qualifications

  • 3 – 5 years’ relevant professional working experience, preferably in conservation, forestry, sustainable agriculture, land use planning or other related field;
  • University degree or higher in a field related to environmental science, forestry, natural resources management, supply chain management or other related field;
  • Strong understanding of business supply chains and sourcing issues;
  • Exemplary relationship management skills, with proven track record of managing and developing existing clients and developing new ones;
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • A natural planner and organizer, able to prioritize and organize own work schedule, with proven project management skills and experience, effectively driving multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Excellent team player, with emotional stability, ideally used to working with multidisciplinary and multicultural teams in a matrixed global organization, used to fostering cross-boundary collaboration;
  • Experience with managing conflict situations, including having difficult conversations with external or internal team if needed, in a constructive way to achieve the desired outcome;
  • Comfortable in fast-moving, high-pressure, complex and changing environments;
  • Positive attitude and high level of initiative;
  • Willingness to learn and adapt;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Knowledge of and/or experience of using Geographical Information Systems a plus;

Language Skills

  • Fluency in English (written & spoken).
  • Command of other languages, i.e. Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin, other native languages is an added advantage

Working conditions / Physical effort

  • Based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia;
  • Must be able to do remote work/work from home when required;
  • Must be able to accommodate multiple time zones in day to day work;

Other conditions

  • Open-ended;
  • Immediate start;
  • Full-time position;
  • Legal authorisation to work in the final location country.

Suggested Monthly Base Salary (gross amount)

  • RM from 55'000.- to 90'000.- to be discussed depending on experience and education
