Capacity Building

This short training course is designed to build the capacity of community leaders in mining municipalities so that they understand the rights and duties of their communities in decision-making processes for local development. The ‘short course’ for community leaders follows the successful conclusion of the CSE’s first 10-month ‘long course’ for Guinean social practitioners in 2021.

The recruitment targets community leaders who:

The ‘long course’ drew participants from companies, civil society organisations, the government and communities. It culminated with a symposium that involved the Guinean mining sector and featured the results of the participants’ professional projects. A second ‘long course’ for Guinean social practitioners, which started in May 2022, has just wrapped up its theoretical classroom phase in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The upcoming ‘short course’ will train 20 men and women who are leaders from communities affected by mining operations.

The recruitment targets community leaders who
o Reside in the Boké region;
o Are able to influence grassroots decisions, which are not necessarily part of the municipal executive;
o Are listened to and esteemed by their communities;
o Are informed and open-minded (brave, bold and not afraid to face difficult situations);
o Have good knowledge of their natural environment; and are able to communicate well in the local language
(Soussou or Poular) and in French.

Registration for the current course is open until October 10, 2022
. Companies, civil society organisations or other institutions involved in community development are encouraged to recommend a community leader by submitting a registration form by 11:59 p.m. (Conakry time) on October 10th, 2022; and email the registration form to cse.team@earthworm.org
